MOUNT PLEASANT -- Wando boys soccer coach Shilo Tisdale had a game plan Thursday night, but 10 minutes into the game he scrapped that plan.

It turned out to be a good decision.

After falling behind early, the Warriors got three goals from senior Eric Fornell en route to a 5-2 win over Lexington in the Class AAAA playoffs.

"It's just a matter of working hard," said Tisdale. "I told the guys we needed to make this a fitness test, and that's what we did. We're deep, they're not.

"We had a scouting report on them, but it wasn't the best option early, so we moved a few people around and made a few adjustments. I was confident if we could get the lead, we'd be able to get the win tonight," Tisdale said.

Lexington's Ryan Freiburger scored in the seventh minute to take an early lead.

The Warriors tied the game in the 23rd minute on Fornell's first goal. In the 30th minute, Hayden Pierpont put Wando ahead 2-1 with an assist from Fornell.

Lexington's Osasu Aighewi tied it late in the first half, but Fornell's second goal in the 40th minute gave the Warriors a 3-2 lead, changing the momentum of the game.

"That was huge. It changed the entire mood of my halftime speech from negative to positive. Instead of them scoring the last goal and us having our heads down, we stole the momentum back," Tisdale said.

From there, Wando remained in control throughout the second half, and got late goals from Fornell and Dustin Bailey. Brandon Burkholder had two assists in the win.

The Warriors next host West Ashley at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
