Former South Carolina pitcher Jordan Montgomery will be on the Charleston RiverDogs’ roster when the team opens the season Thursday.
Montgomery, a 6-4, 225-pound left-hander, was taken by the New York Yankees in the fourth round of last year’s Major League Baseball draft. Jordan, 22, left USC after his junior year to enter the draft. He was 8-5 with a 3.42 ERA in 100.0 innings for the Gamecocks last season.
He has been with the Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League. The RiverDogs are a Class A affiliate of the Yankees in the South Atlantic League.
New York has not announced the RiverDogs’ full roster yet. Charleston opens the season Thursday night at Riley Park against Lexington.
