Former Wando High School pitcher Drew Cisco, released by the Cincinnati Reds last week, signed Tuesday with the Ottawa Champions in the independent Can-Am League.
Cisco, 23 and the younger brother of former South Carolina Gamecocks pitcher Mike Cisco, was the Reds’ sixth-round draft pick in 2010. He pitched well in 2012 (3.39 earned run average in Rookie League at Billings) and 2013 (3.86 ERA at low level Class A Dayton) but struggled in 2014 at high level Class A Bakersfield (6.78 ERA).
The Reds are stocked with one of the best groups of minor league pitchers at the higher levels of the minors.
Ottawa doesn’t open its season until May 22.
