Elon tops Citadel

Elon 4, The Citadel 2 ELON, N.C. – Elon scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 ballgame and The Citadel was unable to score with the bases loaded in the ninth as the Phoenix held on for a 4-2 victory and a sweep of the Bulldogs at Latham Park.

The Bulldogs (24-31, 13-17) will be No. 7 seed in the Southern Conference Tournament beginning Wednesday at Fluor Field in Greenville.

Knotted at 1-1 after solo home runs by Mason Davis and Elon’s Alex Swim in the fourth inning, The Phoenix (31-24, 20-10 SoCon) plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh to open a 4-1 lead.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — UNC Greensboro scored seven runs in the fifth inning to erase a 7-2 College of Charleston lead as the Spartans went on to defeat the Cougars at UNCG Ballpark.

UNCG (25-26, 10-19 SoCon) used 14 hits to score the 10 runs led by three-RBI performances from Trevor Edwards and Lloyd Enzor.

The Cougars (36-18, 20-9) were led offensively by Cody Martin and Brandon Glazer who each tallied multiple RBIs.

Charleston had scored every run in the seven-run third inning until Glazer hit a solo homer in the top of the ninth inning.

Wake Forest 2, Clemson 1 Winston-Salem, N.C. -Brett Armour’s two-run homer in the eighth inning broke a scoreless tie and Wake Forest held on for a 2-1 win over Clemson in front of 1,241 fans at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Demon Deacons, who clinched a spot in the ACC Tournament, improved to 31-22 overall and 12-17 in the ACC.

The Demon Deacons escaped a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the top of the eighth inning without allowing a run, then Armour blasted a two-run homer just inside the left-field foul pole in the bottom of the eighth inning to score the game’s first runs.

Clemson (32-23, 16-13) loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth inning, but only scored one run and fell one run short.
