CLEMSON -- Former Berkeley High standout Andre Ellington is not typically a fumbler, but he fumbled twice during the team's first scrimmage last week. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney called poor ball security "unacceptable" and Ellington will attempt to show it was an isolated incident during the team's second scrimmage at 9:30 a.m. today at Death Valley.

Jamie Harper led the team in rushing last week, held onto the ball, and Swinney referred to Harper as a "locomotive" following Friday's practice.

Still, don't except a feature back to emerge this fall. Swinney reiterated Friday the plan is to have a time-share at running back, splitting the majority of the work between Harper and Ellington.

"I think we have two special backs," Swinney said. "Last year we had C.J. Spiller, the best player in America, and we played three guys all year, and the reason we did it was because the other two were pretty good players.

"It will be the same thing this year: it will be a one-two punch."

Parker's scrimmage debut

Kyle Parker missed the team's first scrimmage last week, traveling with the baseball team to Virginia. Parker will run the first-team offense this morning and join the baseball team for its evening home game against Boston College.

Tajh Boyd will run the second-team offense.

"Tajh is coming," Swinney said. "We've just kind of thrown everything at the wall. Some of it has stuck, some hasn't."

O-line shuffling

Mason Cloy practiced for the first time since his leg injury. Cloy wore a green jersey and practiced in a limited capacity. Clemson lost reserve guard Wilson Norris to an ACL tear on Wednesday, a blow to the experience-thin second team. The recovery time from ACL surgery is typically eight to 12 months.

Extra points

Swinney was banged up in game of pick-up basketball Friday, when he collided with TigerIllusrated.com writer Larry Williams. Swinney suffered from swelling in his knee but appeared to be OK after practice … Parker did not practice, as he was in baseball coach Jack Leggett's lineup. He put on a batting practice show, once clearing the new left-field bleachers at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. … Swinney doesn't think Spiller will fall past the 12th pick in the NFL draft later this month.
