Ebersole up by one in City Senior Amateur golf tournament

John Ebersole converted four birdies into a 2-under-par 67 Friday for a one-stroke lead in the Charleston City Senior Amateur being played at Municipal Golf Course. The tournament is for golfers 50 and older.

Par was reduced to 69 because of wet conditions, with the par-4 13th played as a par-3, the par-5 15th played as a par-4 and the par-4 16th played as a par-3.

Ebersole, who started his round on the ninth hole, birdied 10, bogeyed 14, birdied 15 and18 before parring in to take a one-stroke lead over Oren Wood. Defending champion Winn Tutterow opened with a 70.

Nick Avery also shot 67 to lead the Super Senior division for players ages 60-69, while Charles Relyea leads the Super Super Senior division for players 70 and older, also shooting 67.

The tournament continues through Sunday.
