New Citadel basketball coach Chuck Driesell has signed his first Bulldog recruit in 6-6, 210-pound forward Barry Smith of The Kiski School in Saltsburg, Pa.

Smith averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds as a post-graduate senior at The Kiski School.

"We are very excited to pick up a player the caliber of Barry Smith this late in the recruiting process," Driesell said. "With his size, ability to shoot the ball and his passion to play defense, he will fit into the style of play at The Citadel very well.

"Barry comes to us from a well-respected prep school, with a solid coaching background and a very bright future ahead of him. He will have the opportunity to come in and play for us right away."

Smith played high school ball at Penn Hills in the Pittsburgh area before going to The Kiski School, an all-boys college prep boarding school about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Smith had an offer from Youngstown State out of high school.

Also, Driesell will be a celebrity guest at the 2010 Dick Vitale Gala tonight in Sarasota, Fla., to benefit The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
