Summerville 10, Colleton County 0 (5 inn.)

SUMMERVILLE — The Summerville Green Wave clinched the Region 8-AAAA baseball championship Friday night with a 10-0 five-inning victory over Colleton County.

Patrick Dolan was nearly perfect at the plate, with a 2-for-3 effort including a double in the first and a single in the third to drive in the Waves' first run.

Dolan, who has committed to playing for Charleston Southern, was persistent on the mound. He allowed five hits and 10 baserunners, but was able to pitch out of jams to win his sixth game in seven decisions as the Wave captured its first conference title since 2005.

With one out in the first, Colleton County had runners on second and third, but Dolan caught Andre Collum and Holden Crosby looking at third strikes to get out of the inning.

In the second, the Cougars had runners on second and third with two out, and Dolan got out of the inning unscathed as he struck out Zack Singleton.

Right fielder Tyler Veronee kept the Cougars off the board with a big play in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Jamil Page singled and stole second. Darin Campbell singled to right, but Veronee threw a strike to catcher Brett Wheeler to nail Page.

Dolan finished with six strikeouts and high praise from coach Burt Bazzle after the Wave increased its record to 14-6, including 9-0 in the region.

"Pat has really come on," said Bazzle, who thinks he has won 10 region titles in 23 years at Summerville. "We used him mostly in relief at the beginning (of the season) and extended his innings. There were a lot of good pitches on his part. He's a competitor. Once we got some runs, he was able to relax."

Dolan had an RBI single in the third, and three batters later, Aaron Bouronich blasted a massive three-run homer to right-center to make it 4-0. He also went 2-for-3.

The Green Wave shortened the game with six runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth. Colleton County made two errors in the inning and two Summerville batters walked.

Colleton County fell to 9-7, 5-2.
