— Shortstop Joseph Scott made a diving defensive play for Dillon to end Bishop England’s scoring threat in the top of the sixth inning and then kick-started Dillon’s five-run outburst in the bottom of the frame with a lead-off single as the Wildcats defeated Bishop England, 9-5, to advance to their first Class AA state title series since 2008.

Bishop England had taken a 5-4 lead on Jeffrey Brown’s two-run single in the sixth inning. The Bishops then loaded the bases with two outs and Jonathan Browning hit a hard grounder to Scott, who moved to his left and made sliding, diving stop and threw out Leo Albano from his knees at second to end the threat.

Albano and Browning led the Bishops with two hits apiece. Gunnar Finneseth took the loss for the Bishops. He gave up four earned runs, five hits and struck out one in two innings of relief.
