CONWAY — Hilton Head Prep took an eight-shot lead after the first day of the SCISA Class AAA state golf championships at Costal Carolina University.

Defending state champ Pinewood Prep is second with a 311 and Hilton Head Christian is third at 317.

Porter-Gaud is fifth with a 327.

Pinewood’s Rich Hubbard had an outstanding first round with a two-under par 70.

“The conditions were extremely difficult,” Pinewood coach Greg Baechtle said. “It was cold. It was windy. Richard’s score was outstanding for the conditions.”

Porter-Gaud’s Robert Ferira and Jordan Jones both shot 79 for the Cyclones.

Sailing The College of Charleston coed sailing team claimed a 29-point victory over second-place Stanford to win the Admiral’s Cup regatta hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy over the weekend in King’s Point, N.Y.

The Cougars placed first with 315 points in the 19-team field.

In other weekend competition, the College ofCharleston women’s team placed third at the SAISA Women’s Championships hosted by Clemson.
