Defending champion Lea Anne Brown leads by 1 in WSCGA Senior Championship

Defending champion Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant shot 75 Tuesday to take a one-shot lead in the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association Senior Championship being played at the Country Club of Lexington. The tournament concludes Wednesday.

Ashley E. Rose of Mt. Vintage Golf Club in North Augusta, who lost to Brown in a one-hole playoff last year, is in second while Terrie Allemang of Sea Pines Country Club on Hilton Head Island was third in Flight 1 with a 78.

Brown, who plays out of Bulls Bay Golf Club, is seeking a third WSCGA Senior title. She also won in 2010. Brown made three bogeys and two birdies on the front nine and had seven pars and two bogeys on the back nine.

Brook Comfort shot 85 and leads fellow Kiawah Island Club member Ginny Larence by two strokes in Flight 3. Betty Poore of Wild Dunes is tied for third in Flight 4 with an opening 93. Jackie Bennett of Kiawah Island Club shot 78 and has a one-shot lead in Super Senior Flight 1. Teddy Stockwell of Yeamans Hall Club is in third, two shots off the lead, after an 85 in Super Senior Flight 2.
