DALY CITY, CALIF. — Katelyn Dambaugh of Goose Creek ran into a buzzsaw Thursday in the form of defending champion Ariya Jutangarn in the round of 32 in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Lake Merced Golf Club.

Jutangarn, a 16-year-old from Thailand, scored a 5 and 4 win over Dambaugh, who was the 2010 runnerup and has committed to play for the University of South Carolina.

Jutangarn went up early, taking a 4-up lead after eight holes. Dambaugh had two bogeys during that stretch, and Jutangarn shot 33 on the front nine. Jutangarn was 3-up going to the back nine, won the 11th hole with a birdie, then closed the match with a birdie on the par-5 14th hole.

The tournament continues through Saturday.
