Charleston Southern baseball player Jon Matthews remains in the hospital after being hit in the face by a pitch last weekend.

Matthews, a freshman outfielder from Marietta, Ga., suffered a shattered jaw when he was struck by a pitch in a May 8 game against visiting Liberty.

According to school officials, Matthews was moved out of intensive care at Trident Regional Medical Center two days ago. He will need to have his jaw wired shut for six to eight weeks.

Matthews, 6-2 and 195 pounds, was hitting .297 with one home run and 14 RBIs for the Buccaneers, who are at UNC Asheville this weekend.
