College of Charleston's Antwaine Wiggins was named Southern Conference men's basketball December athlete of the month as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Wiggins led College of Charleston to a 5-2 record in the month, including a 71-65 home victory over Tennessee on Dec. 14 and a perfect 2-0 start to SoCon play for the fourth straight season.
He averaged a team and conference-leading 18.7 points and eight rebounds per game against The Citadel, North Division favorite Chattanooga, Tennessee, Charleston Southern, No. 4-ranked Louisville, Coastal Carolina and George Mason combined.
Former Louisville guard Charmaine Tay joined Clemson and will sit out until the start of the spring 2013 semester before playing at Clemson. Tay can practice immediately.
Tay is a 5-11 player who spent her freshman year with the Cardinals, who reached the NCAA's round of 16 a season ago.
