Darcy Dorton had 21 kills and 12 digs as College of Charleston defeated Charleston Southern, 25-20, 25-23, 16-25, 25-19, in volleyball Tuesday night at Buccaneer Fieldhouse.
The Cougars (7-5) hit .301 for the match against the Buccaneers (5-10).
Emily Neideffer hit .714 with 10 kills on 14 attempts and no errors. Melissa Morello had 13 kills, Kerstin Koehler added 10 kills, Emily Shelton had 26 digs and Taeler Davis had 60 assists.
The Buccaneers were led by Kayla Klinger’s 15 kills and 12 digs. Siraya Windsor added 11 kills and 13 digs.
The Cougars open Southern Conference play at Elon on Saturday. Charleston Southern hosts Presbyterian on Friday.
The Citadel’s senior trio of Cassie Uribe, Rachael Farrell and Jessica Maxwell combined for 19 kills, but it was not enough as UNC Wilmington won 25-21, 25-21, 25-17, in Wilmington, N.C.
Uribe had eight kills to lead the Bulldogs (2-12), while Farrell had six kills and 15 digs.
The Citadel opens SoCon play Saturday at UNC Greensboro.
Eric Martinez scored midway through the second half in leading South Carolina to a 1-0 victory over Clemson in a men’s soccer in Columbia.
USC improved to 3-3-1, while Clemson fell to 1-5-2.
