Rob Kral's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 11th inning gave the College of Charleston a 12-11 win over Appalachian State in the opening game of the Southern Conference Baseball Tournament Wednesday at Riley Park.
Charleston had jumped out to a 7-2 lead through five innings, but Appalachian State added eight runs in the next three innings to take a 10-8 lead into the ninth. Pinch hitter Justin Brewer delivered a home run to open the inning and the Cougars tied the game, sending it into extra innings.
The Mountaineers scored one run in the top of the 11th, but Brewer drew a base on balls to open the bottom of the 11th and eventually scored the tying run. The Cougars loaded the bases to set the stage for Kral, who got his only hit of the game.
