College of Charleston’s Marty Gantt has been named to the mid-season watch list for the USA Golden Spikes award, USA Baseball announced today.
Gantt, a senior center fielder from North Augusta, is one of 60 players named to the list, and the only one from the Southern Conference. The Golden Spikes award is given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the nation.
USA Baseball will narrow the list down to 30 semifinalists on May 29 and the winner will be announced on July 6.
Gantt leads the SoCon in batting average (.394), runs scored (49), doubles (18) and on-base percentage (.495)
