Cullowhee, N.C. -- Second baseman Amber Shifflett ripped a pair of home runs as the College of Charleston softball team topped Western Carolina, 7-2, to earn a split of a Southern Conference doubleheader against the Catamounts (5-31, 1-12).

The Cougars (14-18, 4-6) dropped a 7-1 decision in the first game.

Shifflett was 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs while Amanda Lonergan added a pair of RBIs in the second game. It was the first multi-homer game of Shifflett's college career.

--Liberty used a three-run fourth inning to pull away for a 5-1 victory over Charleston Southern at Buccaneer Field.

Erin Kegley had the only extra base hit of the day for the Buccaneers (21-21-1, 5-6 Big South) -- an RBI double in the first inning that scored the Bucs' lone run.

Soccer

The Charleston Battery defeated the College of Charleston soccer team, 2-0, at the Patriots Point Soccer Complex.

Forward Tom Heinemann and midfielder Rudolph Mayard supplied the goals as the Battery won its final preseason match ahead of next week's season opener in Charlotte.
