Cougars, Delaware draw

— The College of Charleston women’s soccer team earned its first point in the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a 1-1 draw with Delaware at Patriots Point on Friday.

The Cougars (2-13-1, 0-6-1) led for most of the game after a 11th minute goal by Danielle Mellem until Delaware equalized in the 64th minute.

Appalachian State posted a 9-3 victory over The Citadel women at WLI Field.

The Citadel (5-9-2, 3-6 SoCon) must now earn a win or a tie against Western Carolina at home on Sunday in order to keep its playoff hopes alive.

The College of Charleston men’s team had its upset bid of UAB derailed by a pair of late Blazers goals, tilting the decision to a 2-1 loss in non-conference play at Birmingham, Ala.

C of C (2-10-1) led for over 70 minutes after a 15th-minute goal by Troy Peterson with an assist to Jake Currie.

UNC Asheville outlasted Charleston Southern in five sets at the Buc Dome, 25-22, 14-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-9.

The Buccaneers (5-19, 0-9 Big South) had four players with double-digit kills, led by a 15-kill performance by senior outside hitter Kayla Klinger.

Samford earned a 25-16, 25-16, 25-16 victory over The Citadel (5-20, 0-9 SoCon) at McAlister Field House.

The Citadel will host Chattanooga on Saturday at 4 p.m.
