Cougars’ Brantley honored by CAA

For the second time this season, College of Charleston’s Jarrell Brantley was named Colonial Athletic Association rookie of the week by the conference office on Monday.

Brantley led the Cougars to a 66-62 road victory at Elon on Feb. 13 with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting against the Phoenix. Brantley was one rebound shy of a double-double with a game-high nine rebounds. He scored 10 points and had a game-high tying seven rebounds against James Madison on Feb. 11.


Charleston Southern freshman Arizona Pilgrim was named the Big South Conference softball pitcher of the week.

Pilgrim pitched the final four innings in the Bucs’ 9-4 win over IPFW and added three shutout innings in a start against the Mastodons in the nightcap to go 2-0 on the week with a 0.00 ERA.

The College of Charleston ended its weekend trip to the Savannah State tournament with a loss to Western Carolina, 9-1, and a thrilling 9-7 win over Savannah State.

The Cougars (3-1) beat Savannah State, 3-2, in extra innings, and Jacksonville State, 7-6, on the opening day of the tournament.
