SPARTANBURG -- The College of Charleston broke open a one-goal game with three second-half goals in a 5-1 men's soccer victory over Wofford in both teams' Southern Conference openers on Saturday.

Connor Coons' strike in the 23d minute for the Cougars (5-2-1) came just moments before the only goal for the Terriers (2-5-1). C of C's Tony Kattreh made it 1-0 in the 16th minute.

Charleston's other goals came from George Khoury (47th minute), Shawn Ferguson (66th) and Troy Peterson (80th).

Ralphie Lundy had two assists in the win.

College cross country

Dena O'Brien was the first overall women's finisher as the College of Charleston topped five teams in The Citadel Invitational at James Island County Park. She won in a time of 18 minutes, 13.99 seconds. The Citadel was third and Charleston Southern fourth in the women's team standings. C of C was second, The Citadel third and CSU fourth among the men.
