CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The top-seeded College of Charleston women's tennis team took down eighth-seeded Appalachian State, 4-0, to advance to the semifinals of the Southern Conference tournament on Thursday at the Champions Club.

The Cougars (19-7) won their 12th match in a row and will face fourth-seeded Samford (18-4) today at 10 a.m. They have now reached the semifinals 11 straight years since 2001, while the Bulldogs defeated fifth-seeded and host Chattanooga, 4-2, to advance to the semis.

--College of Charleston men's tennis earned its second shutout of the season over Davidson with a 4-0 victory in the SoCon men's tournament quarterfinals in Chattanooga.

The Cougars advance to the semifinals where they meet Furman for a 2 p.m. match today. The Paladins downed UNC Greensboro 4-1 earlier Thursday.

Elon and Samford will compete in the other semifinal, also at 2 p.m.

The College of Charleston women's soccer team and head coach Christian Michner have announced Henry Zapata as the team's new assistant coach. His job duties will entail developing goalkeepers, administering full-team and individual training sessions, editing video and scouting opponents.
