Cecilia Fournil had to remind herself Thursday after winning her second Women's South Carolina Golf Association Amateur stroke play title that the only thing that counts is the final tally, which showed a two-shot victory for the Columbia insurance executive.

"I don't feel good about how I won, but they don't ask you to draw a picture," said Fournil, who posted a final-round 81 to finish the 54-hole tournament played at Daniel Island Club's Ralston Creek course at 14-over-par 230.

Fellow Columbian Catherine Shealy took second at 75--232, while three-time winner Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant and Cathy Hill of Columbia tied third at 233.

Fournil, 37, is a lifetime amateur who played college golf for the University of South Carolina. She has played in 13 U.S. Golf Association events, and made it to the top 16 in the Women's Amateur and Women's Mid-Amateur.

She had not played in the S.C. Women's Amateur for the past four years while trying to build her insurance agency, but had taken some lessons and been playing well coming into the tournament.

"I wanted to win it," Fournil said.

"It's kind of the last thing from a regional standpoint you can play in. I've been working hard. And up until today I've played pretty well."

Fournil, who struggled with the par-3 ninth the first two days, bogeyed it again Thursday to begin a lengthy skid that didn't end until she signed her scorecard.
