College of Charleston freshman infielder Carl Wise has been selected to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-America Second Team.
Despite only starting the last 38 games of the season, Wise finished second on the team with a .321 batting average and led the squad with 10 home runs. His .606 slugging percentage ranked seventh in the Southern Conference and 39th in the nation, while his team-best .453 on-base percentage ranked fifth in the SoCon.
Wise was selected to the All-Southern Conference Freshman team at the end of the regular season. He was the only player from the SoCon selected to the Freshman All-America teams.
The former White Knoll High School standout finished the season on a tear, smashing five home runs and totaling 12 RBIs in the final five games. He was a perfect four-for-four with four runs, four RBI, two homers and a double in the Cougars’ final game in the SoCon Tournament against Elon.
Wise was the only player on the team to have two multiple home run games and his first career hit as a Cougar was a solo home run on Feb. 19 against Charleston Southern.
Wise is the ninth All-American coached by Monte Lee in the past five seasons.
