CLEMSON – Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips told The Post and Courier on Monday he was “embarrassed” and “dismayed” to learn former Clemson quarterback Tribble Reese and his dates from the reality TV show ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ appeared to lead Saturday’s pre-game Tiger Walk.
Many fans were disappointed Reese walked with the team into the West Zone, especially on Saturday which marked Military Appreciation Day at Memorial Stadium, a venue named in honor of Clemson service men killed in military duty.
Phillips said he did not give permission for Reese to participate in the Tiger Walk.
“For that to occur on Military Appreciation Day, I understand why people are angry, I’m dismayed,” Phillips said. “It’s not going to happen again.”
While the CMT television show was given permission by the football office to film part of an upcoming episode at Clemson, Phillips said coach Dabo Swinney was “unaware” of Reese’s involvement in the Tiger Walk.
Swinney began the pre-game entrance walk, which has players and coaches walk through the west end zone parking lot and tail-gating crowd to enter Memorial Stadium several hours prior to games.
