CLEMSON - Clemson pitcher Dominic Leone is turning pro, signing a $100,000 contract with the Seattle Mariners today, according to

Leone, a junior, had an uneven season finishing with a 7-4 record and a 5.25 ERA. He was selected in the 16th round Tuesday.

Leone’s signing wasn’t the only hit for Clemson today.

Clemson’s prized commit Lucas Sims signed with the Atlanta Braves for $1.65 million after being selected in the first round Monday.

The hard-throwing, right-handed pitcher was viewed as a longshot to play at Clemson prior to the draft.

Clemson also is expected to lose juniors Richie Shaffer and Spencer Kieboom to pro baseball. Shaffer was selected in the first round by Tampa Bay, Kieboom was taken in the fifth round by Washington. Kevin Brady (10th round, Philadelphia) is also a threat to forego his senior year.
