MOUNT PLEASANT -- Wando soccer coach Shannon Champ expected a close game Wednesday night. But her Warriors proved otherwise.

They scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the match and went on to top White Knoll, 7-0, in a Class AAAA girls playoff game at the Wando Athletic Complex.

"We're having a good year," Champ said after her team upped its record to 20-1. "We're peaking at the right time. But we will have our hands full with

Dutch Fork."

The defending state champion Warriors host Dutch Fork in the third round on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Warriors had seven different players score goals: Rebecca Lisson, Rebecca Sisson, Martin Trenholm, Kelsey Timmerman, Nor Bishop, Rachel Torlay and Hannah Ross.

"We played well, especially in front of the net," Champ said. "That helped our confidence and took theirs away. We had seven players score. That is balance. We're doing what we need to do. We're putting 11 good players out there. That's what makes us hard to beat. We have quality everywhere."

That includes in goal. Keeper Amelia Henderson recorded her 18th shutout of the year in dramatic fashion by stopping a penalty kick.

Wando dominated as the score indicated. The Warriors had 30 shots to the visitors' four.
