HANAHAN -- Hanahan baseball coach Brian Mitchell was worried about his team's mindset after Monday's loss to rival Bishop England.
By early Wednesday night, he was satisfied all the extra concern was unnecessary.
Five players had two hits apiece in a 15-4 victory over Cheraw in 4 1/2 innings as the Hawks earned a spot in Friday's Lower State finals and a rematch with Bishop England.
"You never know how a team is going to respond in a situation like this," Mitchell said. "I think they came out and showed they're ready to play. We're excited about the opportunity to go over there and see what we can do."
The Hawks (24-4) have to beat the Bishops twice to earn a spot in next week's best-of-3 state championship series.
The Bishops doubled up Hanahan, 10-5, after rallying from a 4-1 deficit.
It was actually the fourth meeting between the two teams this season and evened the series at 2-2.
But Monday's game was the one that mattered.
"It's no secret they're a very good ball team," Mitchell said. "They're very well-coached and we know they've the got the formula for success over there.
They've won all those state titles for a reason."
Against Cheraw (23-8), Hanahan sent 15 men to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored nine runs with two outs to put the game away. Three Braves pitchers walked seven batters in the inning and forced across the last three runs with bases-loaded walks.
Tyler Allen had a two-run homer and Kyle Dyson drove in two with a single during the uprising, which answered Cheraw's three runs in the top of the inning.
Bryce Hines had his seventh homer in seven games in the first inning to stake the Hawks to a 2-1 lead, and they built it up to 6-1 with four runs in the third.
Hines and Dyson had three RBIs each to go along with their two hits. Allen's homer was his second hit.
Nick Zerbst collected two hits and knocked in two runs, while Bret Hines also had a pair of hits. Evan Jordan (8-1) threw a complete game, scattering six hits and striking out nine batters for the Hawks.
