Citadle names Yielding assistant coach

Scott Yielding

Citadel graduate and former Bulldogs assistant coach Scott Yielding is returning to the military school as recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach, football coach Brent Thompson announced Monday.

Yielding comes to The Citadel from Illinois, where he worked the last two seasons as director of player personnel. The 1993 Citadel graduate served as tight ends coach and academic coordinator for the Bulldogs in 2012-13.

“I am extremely happy to be able to add Scott Yielding to our coaching staff,” Thompson said. “He is a tremendous evaluator who understands the fit that will allow our cadet-athletes to be successful at The Citadel. He will be a valuable asset to our coaches and team with his knowledge and experiences here as a cadet, graduate student and coach and I’m excited to have him as a resource.”

Yielding also has worked at Oklahoma State and spent 10 years coaching in the high school ranks, including a stint at North Charleston High School in 1998-2000.

“My family and I are blessed to have the opportunity to return to The Citadel and join Coach Thompson’s staff,” Coach Yielding said. “I had the chance to work with Coach Thompson briefly in spring of 2014, and I was impressed with his football knowledge and willingness to get to know and appreciate The Citadel culture. I’m looking forward to helping continue the on-field success of the football program while also playing a role in developing the next generation of leaders off the field.”

Yielding and current assistant Roy Tesh will both coach the defensive line. Thompson has one more staff position to fill.
