For the first time in 20 years, The Citadel's annual football game with rival Furman will be the final game of the regular season. Five home games and road trips to North Carolina State and VMI also dot the Bulldogs' 2012 schedule, released Thursday.

The Citadel will end the regular season on Nov. 17 at Furman, the first time the Bulldog and Paladins have met in the final game since 1992, when The Citadel last won the Southern Conference title.

The Sept. 1 season-opener against Charleston Southern marks the first of five home games for the Bulldogs, who also will host Georgia Southern, Chattanooga, Western Carolina and Elon.

A Sept. 22 game at North Carolina State marks the Bulldogs' first meeting with the Wolfpack since 1983. And a Nov. 10 trip to VMI is The Citadel's first game at its military school rival since 2007.

The Hall of Fame game is set for Sept. 29 against Chattanooga, with Parents Day on Oct. 13 against WCU and homecoming Nov. 3 against Elon.

"We are looking forward to renewing our series with Charleston Southern and continuing our rivalry with VMI," head coach Kevin Higgins said. "Our players will be excited to play a strong ACC opponent in N.C. State, and ending the season with Furman will bring back a lot of great memories for our alums."
