GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Citadel bullpen blew a second straight game, and the Bulldogs lost, 7-4, at UNC Greensboro to stagger to a fourth-seed finish in the Southern Conference.

The Citadel (32-24, 18-12) will face Appalachian State in the first round of the Southern Conference baseball tournament on Wednesday at Fluor Field in Greenville. With a win, the Bulldogs would have claimed the No. 2 seed.

UNCG (24-31, 11-19), which did not qualify for the SoCon tournament, scored six runs in the eighth inning today to erase a 4-1 Citadel lead. On Friday, the Spartans won 13-11 with four runs in the ninth, capped by Trevor Edwards’ two-out, two-strike, two-run homer.

The Citadel scored three runs in the fifth inning, the key blow a two-run double by Tyler Griffin, and led 4-1 in the eighth.

But UNCG scored six runs on five hits and an error to take the lead, and the Bulldogs went quietly in the ninth.

Austin Livingston (4-2), the fifth of eight Citadel pitchers, got the loss. The collapse ruined a solid start from James Reeves, who went 5 2/3 shutout innings, allowing four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Griffin was 3 for 4 and drove in two runs. Sluggers Joe Jackson and Bo Thompson were walked three times and hit by pitch three times, limiting them to a combined 0 for 2 with two RBI.
