Tyler Renew’s performance in The Citadel’s 23-22 upset of South Carolina on Saturday has earned the Bulldogs’ fullback the Southern Conference offensive player of the week award.

Renew, a junior from Ben Lippen High School in Columbia, ran for 174 yard and two touchdowns on 23 carries, and scored the winning touchdown on a 56-yard run with 6:07 left in the game.

Renew’s 174 yards were the most by a USC opponent at Williams-Brice Stadium since Arkansas’ Darren McFadden ran for 219 yards in 2006.

The 8-3 Bulldogs play at Coastal Carolina at 2 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the FCS playoffs.
