Citadel’s Dupree earns SoCon award

The Citadel quarterback Ben Dupree has been named Southern Conference offensive player of the week for his performance in last week’s 59-58 loss at Old Dominion.

Dupree, a junior Harrisburg, Pa., ran 24 times for 149 yards and a school-record five touchdowns against ODU, scoring on runs of 13, 17, 33, 2 and 19 yards. He also completed 5 of 8 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, a 23-yard strike to Jake Stenson to give the Bulldogs a chance to win with 1:39 left in the game.

Dupree’s five rushing TDs tied for the third-best mark in SoCon history, and his six touchdowns accounted for is tied for fifth in league history.

Dupree is now fifth in Citadel history with 26 rushing touchdowns, and his 2,056 rushing yards make him just the 12th player in school history to crack the 2,000-yard mark.

The 1-3 Bulldogs host Furman (1-2) at 6 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Hagood Stadium.
