Citadel promotes Worley

  • Updated

The Citadel has promoted offensive assistant Cody Worley to quarterbacks coach, head coach Kevin Higgins said Thursday.

Worley has been a quality control coach for the last two years, and replaces Craig Candeto, who left to become head coach at Division III Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

Worley, 25, will also coach The Citadel’s fullbacks. He played quarterback at Furman.

Higgins said he interviewed three or four outside candidates before promoting Worley.

“Cody has been Craig Candeto’s understudy for the last two years, basically preparing for the day when Craig would leave,” Higgins said.

Illness forced Candeto to miss almost all of fall camp last year, with Worley stepping into the breach.

“That’s when we realized that this guy is mature beyond his years,” Higgins said. “He did an excellent job and continues to blossom.”
