Drayton leaving The Citadel for NFL’s Colts

Former Citadel football player and assistant coach Maurice Drayton has signed with the NFL's Green Bay Packers as an assistant coach.

Drayton reports to work Monday and will serve as a special-teams assistant coach for the Packers, he said Thursday.

Drayton coached the last two seasons with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts.

He is a Berkeley High School graduate and a 1998 graduate of The Citadel, where he coached for nine seasons. He was the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator in 2014 and in 2015, when The Citadel went 9-4 and won the first of two straight Southern Conference titles.

Drayton also has worked at South Carolina State, Coastal Carolina and Southern Miss.
