Citadel basketball player Rae Robinson, a former two-sport standout at Goose Creek High School, will transfer to another college, school officials confirmed Friday.
Robinson, a 6-3, 189-pound sophomore guard, played in 26 games last season, averaging 11.4 minutes, 2.9 points and 1.4 rebounds. As a freshman in 2012-13, Robinson played in 19 games and started 10, averaging 20.2 minutes, 4.5 points and 2.1 rebounds.
Robinson, an All-Lowcountry football and basketball player at Goose Creek, said he plans to continue playing basketball, but is not sure where. He called his choice "a family decision."
"My grades aren't where they should be, and I just felt it would be in my best interest to start fresh somewhere else," he said.
Robinson is the fourth Citadel player to leave the school since the Bulldogs ended the 2013-14 season with a 7-26 record. Forward Matt Van Scyoc, the top Bulldogs' scorer, will play at Indiana State after being found guilty of an honor violation, and is the most serious loss.
Reserve forward Dylen Setzekorn, who graduated from The Citadel in three years, is headed to North Georgia as a grad-student transfer, seeking more playing time. Nate Bowser, a 6-9 freshman who played in only 12 games last season, apparently will give up college basketball.
That leaves the Bulldogs with eight players from last year's roster, and incoming freshmen in guard Tim Broom, guard/forward Jake Wright and center Nadi Beciri. The Citadel could sign a fourth freshman for next season.
