BOONE, N.C. — Six victories, including a major decision in the 133-pound classification by Vito Pasone, helped Appalachian State earn a 21-13 decision on Sunday afternoon in Southern Conference wrestling action.
The Bulldogs fell into an early 8-0 hole and 21-3, but fell short despite winning the last three matches.
Marcus Johnson (197 pounds) earned a 12-5 decision over Marshall Haas, while Tyler Buckiso (141), Matt Frisch (149) and Aaron Walker (157) also earned victories. Buckiso beat Michael Longo, 3-2, while Frisch cruised to an 8-0 victory over Javon Johnson. Walker, a 2014 NCAA qualifier, beat Zack Strickland, 8-3.
The next match for The Citadel is at home against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.
College of Charleston women’s tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 29 Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. The match marks the second the Cougars have played in 24 hours after playing at Marshall on Saturday.
Junior Katherine Schofield earned the team’s lone point with a 6-3, 6-2, 1-0 win over Kelsey Dieters at No. 3 singles.
Schofield had lost a tight three-set match yesterday at Marshall and is now 1-1 in singles action.
