Reliever Austin Weekley worked the ninth for his seventh save.

In the second game, Winthrop starter Sam Kmiec (3-6) limited thee Buccaneers to four hits in 72/3 innings, and reliever Eric Ruth pitched out of a jam in the ninth for his eighth save.

The Buccaneers put two runners on in the ninth in a two-run game on one-out singles by Zach Hagaman and Drew Woodall, but Ruth was able to induce a fly out from Shelton and a strike out to end the game as Winthrop took the series.

The Bucs took a 1-0 in the second on a sacrifice fly by Shelton to score Hagaman, who ripped a leadoff double to open the inning, setting up CSU’s early lead.

Winthrop manufactured three runs off of Bucs’ starter Kevin Buran (2-8). An RBI groundout by Kyle Edwards gave the Eagles the lead in the fourth.

Hagaman was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Buccaneers.
