Charleston Southern 9-3, Radford 6-9

RADFORD, Va. -- Walt Quattlebaum had a career-high three hits and Jon Matthews scored four runs as Charleston Southern beat Radford, 9-6, in the opening game en route to a split of a baseball doubleheader.

Bentley Christmas, Nick Chinners and Matt Still homered for the Buccaneers (12-18, 3-5 Big South) in the victory.

CSU's Tyler Thornburg (5-1) pitched six innings and gave up just three runs, two earned, on five hits. He struck out six and walked two to earn his fourth straight win.

In the second game, Radford scored six runs in the sixth inning to break open a pitcher's duel in a 9-3 win.

Radford's Bobby Bolling allowed a single to Nick Chinners in the first inning before retiring 17 of the next 20 Bucs batters. He struck out seven in six innings.

Andrew White pitched well for CSU until running into trouble in the sixth, when Radford broke open a 1-1 game.

Walt Quattlebaum and Tom Burkett homered for the Buccaneers.

Charleston Southern returns to CSU Ballpark for a 3 p.m. game Tuesday against The Citadel.
