MOUNT PLEASANT -- The College of Charleston sailing team won four races and finished second in two others in the final 10 races to move from third after the first day to second at the conclusion of the ICSA National Championship East Semifinals held over the weekend at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center. Boston College won the event with 114 points, 35 ahead of the Cougars.

The Cougars qualified for the ICSA National Championship to be held June 1-3.

Juan Maegli, Katie Weaver and Alyssa Aitken led the Cougars in the A-Division and finished third with 79 points. Jackson Benvenutti, Christina Murray and Sam Stokes sailed in the B-Division for Charleston and took second with 70 points.

Beach volleyball

The 2's Beach Volleyball League returns to the Windjammer on the Isle of Palms.

Play begins May 19. The season runs seven weeks, followed by the league playoffs that could land local players in the AVP qualifier in Chicago this summer.

Bowling

The North Charleston Recreation Department will hold the inaugural Mayor's Cup Bowling Tournament on June 26 at Sandpiper Bowling Center.

The entry fee is $100 per team. Deadline for entry is May 29. If a bowler is 18 or younger and still in school, a parent or legal guardian must sign a consent form. USBC-sanctioned youth bowlers are not eligible for this tournament. Teams consist of a minimum of one person from each gender.
