Charleston Collegiate, Porter-Gaud finish among top teams in SCISA golf championship

Charleston Collegiate finished as the state runner-up in the SCISA Class A state golf tournament held on Monday and Tuesday at the Hackler Course in Conway.

The Sun Devils posted a 36-hole total of 732 to finish 28 strokes behind state champion John Paul II of Savannah. Zach Adams led Charleston Collegiate’s effort with a two-day total 156 (74-82).

Porter-Gaud finished third in the AAA tournament, shooting 618 as a team to finish behind state champion Wilson Hall (597) and runner-up Hammond (613). Porter-Gaud’s Kent Lawrence earned 2016 all-state honors, carding a 36-hole total of 141 (71-70). Pinewood Prep’s J.R. Stark also earned AAA all-state honors with a two-day total 148 (75-73). Pinewood Prep finished sixth in the AAA team standings.

Palmetto Christian’s Ethan Willis earned AA all-state honors with his two-day total of 144 (72-72). Palmetto Christian placed fifth overall in the AA team standings.
