Despite five inches of rain early Thursday, the 62nd Charleston Men’s Amateur Golf Championship will start as scheduled.

General manager Herb Whetsell said the golf course had drained sufficiently to allow the event to remain at 54 holes. Whetsell said there may be some modifications to play because of the rain.

A field of 192 golfers is scheduled to compete, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until 2:20 p.m. Tom Bullock won his second City Amateur a year ago by three shots over Tadd Brown but won’t be on hand to defend, having turned professional.
