SUMMERVILLE -- Senior fullback Keenan Simpson rushed for a school-record 261 yards on 17 carries, scoring three touchdowns, to propel Cane Bay to a 70-34 win over county rival Berkeley on Friday night.
Cane Bay improved to 2-2 on the season while Berkeley dropped to 1-3, allowing 70 points for the second consecutive week.
Simpson’s rushing effort was part of Cane Bay’s 542 rushing yards on the night. Tyler Farr added 119 yards and two touchdowns. Kris Copeland chipped in 62 yards while Keyshawn Foy rushed for 51 yards and had a 65-yard pass reception. Cane Bay finished with 607 total yards.
Berkeley also had a huge night offensively, totaling 509 yards. Junior quarterback Darius Douglas had 83 yards rushing and 230 yards passing. Quentin Scott had 96 yards rushing while DJ Robinson added 63 yards. The Stags committed three turnovers and were one-for-nine on fourth down conversion attempts.
Cane Bay led, 28-20, at the half but out-scored Berkeley, 42-14, in the second half. Cane Bay scored four touchdowns in the final quarter to pull away.
Cane Bay will host unbeaten Hanahan next week while Berkeley hosts Timberland.
