The Citadel football team began its first full week of fall camp on Monday morning at the Maybank Triplets practice facility at Willson Field. The Bulldogs worked out for 2 1/2 hours in helmets and shorts in sunny conditions and temperatures in the low 80s.
"We worked with our punt returning unit," head coach Kevin Higgins said. "We are trying to find out who is going to be replacing Andre Roberts."
Keith Gamble is slotted number one at that position right now and Scott Harward is getting some reps as well. Christian Robertson and Greg Adams are also getting looks.
"Our punt return unit fundamentals looked very good today as they are coming off a strong spring," Higgins said.
Offensively, the coach was impressed with the line.
"The offensive line is getting more consistent. We have some new bodies in there and they are starting to make progress on understanding their assignments and responsibilities in these new schemes," Higgins said.
To escape the heat, Coastal Carolina's first two-a-day practice session schedule has been changed.
The first session will begin at 6 a.m. and last until approximately 8 a.m., with the second practice scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and last until approximately 9 p.m.
The Terriers held their first workout on Monday night. Ninety players worked for two hours in helmets and shorts, primarily on position drills.
After two days in helmets, the team will practice on Wednesday and Thursday in helmets and shoulder pads before putting on full gear on Friday afternoon.
