NINETY-SIX — Austin James carded his second straight 4-under 68 to lift Charleston Southern into second place after the second round of the Big South men’s golf championship.
The Buccaneers were 4-under as a team on Monday and trail leader Liberty by seven strokes. CSU (-2) shot a 284 in the second round, second only to the Flames’ 281 (-7).
Campbell (+2) is third, four behind CSU and 11 back of Liberty. Winthrop (+10) and Gardner-Webb (+11) round out the top five teams.
The No. 3-ranked College of Charleston coed team ended the weekend of competition at the Navy Spring regatta in Annapolis, Md., in second place.
The Cougars (144 points) finished two points out of first behind No. 1 Georgetown, which tallied 142 points.
Senior skipper Dodge Rees sailed in A-Division with sophomore crew Grace McCarthy, and junior skipper Jack Cusick competed in B-Division with junior crew Chloe Dapp. Rees and McCarthy placed second, while Cusick and Dapp were fifth after a head-to-head tiebreaker with Boston U.
