John Cornely, the Wofford College and Bishop England High School graduate who made his Major League debut for the Atlanta Braves on April 29, was traded Wednesday to the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations.

Cornely pitched in one game for the Braves – allowing four runs in one inning of relief in a loss to the Washington Nationals. He was then sent back down to triple-A Gwinnett.

The 26-year-old Mount Pleasant native was Atlanta’s 15th round draft pick in 2011. He is 17-10 with a 2.94 earned run average over five minor league seasons.
