BEAUFORT -- The James Island boys soccer team held off Beaufort early on but the Trojans couldn't stop the Eagles on Thursday night in Class AAAA state playoff action, falling, 5-0.

After finally getting on the scoreboard, Beaufort handled James Island and ended the Trojans' season.

"It was tough breaking them down," said Beaufort midfielder Ethan Konoza, "but eventually, by passing, we wore them down. We got the breakthrough and started opening up room."

With the victory, Beaufort advances to play Lexington -- which defeated Stratford, 6-1 -- for the right to play in the Lower State final.

Scoring goals for Beaufort were Christian Faale, who had two, Andrew Settlemire, Ben Carey and Ethan Konoza. Beaufort coach Gabriel Nieves thought James Island's players grew frustrated and tried to take the Eagles out of the game mentally during the second half.

The Eagles have won their two playoff matches by a combined 11-0.
