Members Al "Hollywood" Meggett's Charleston Youth Boxing Club will hold an exhibition Saturday at the American Legion Post 241 in North Charleston.

There are more than a dozen bouts scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with ages of the fighters ranging from 8-12.

The cost of the event is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

College softball

Charleston Southern head coach Shane Winkler has eight newcomers on the Bucs' roster.

Symone Nettles (USC Salkehatchie) and Kimberly Braxton (Spartanburg Methodist) are transferring in after junior college seasons. Melanie Stickney is a transfer from South Florida.

Newly added freshmen include Nicole Stancil of White Knoll High; Hayes Holdsworth of Wakefield, Va.; Stephanie Sbardella of Fairfax Station, Va.; and Ariel Tedesco of Huntington Beach, Calif. Another freshman, Lizzy Olmstead of Brooksville, Fla., signed last fall.

Basketball

Vanderbilt will be South Carolina’s first guest during the SEC portion of the upcoming season, with Kentucky not too far behind. The Commodores come to town Jan. 8. USC hosts Kentucky on Jan. 22. It will be the teams’ first meeting since USC posted a 68-62 upset of the then-top-ranked and unbeaten Wildcats.
