Blue Devils hold off Tigers; Cougars, UCSB finish in tie

— Justin Bellinger’s two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning lifted Duke to a 2-1 victory over No. 21 Clemson at Jack Coombs Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (17-15, 6-9 ACC) won the series, 2-1.

Senior righthander Brian McAfee (5-2) earned the win in a complete game.

Starter Alex Eubanks (2-3) suffered the loss despite giving up just five hits, two runs and one walk with six strikeouts in 62/3 innings for the Tigers (23-9, 8-7).

College of Charleston and UC Santa Barbara ended in a tie at Patriots Point when the game was called due to travel curfew.

The Cougars (20-10-1) scored four runs in the fourth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit. With runners at the corners and one out, Bradley Dixon singled home a run. Ryan Brown then walked to load the bases for Luke Manzo, who was hit by a pitch to force home the tying run. Dupree Hart walked to give C of C the lead and Tommy Richter plated another run on a sacrifice fly.

UC Santa Barbara (21-7-1) tied the game with two runs in the eighth, but Hart’s two-run double in the bottom half again put the Cougars out front.

Josh Adams singled through the left side to score two runs in the top of the ninth to knot the score at 6.

— Liberty stacked up 14 hits and held off a late Charleston Southern rally to win the series finale.

The Flames (19-15, 5-4 Big South) scored four runs in the third and added two more in the fifth and sixth to build a five-run lead.

CSU (13-19, 2-7) scored twice in the ninth and put the tying run at the plate, but Shane Quarterly got Cole Murphy to ground out to the end the threat.

Jacob Watcher kept hot-hitting UNC Greensboro (25-8, 5-1) in check, giving up just six hits in 51/3 innings and fanning three, but it wasn’t enough as the Spartans defeated The Citadel in the series finale at Riley Park.

Ben Peden finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Steven Hansen knocked in two runs for the Bulldogs (13-20, 3-3 SoCon).
