Paige Deschaine hit her first career home run and threw a no-hitter as Ashley Ridge defeated Aiken, 5-0, in the first round of the Class AAAA softball playoffs.

After scoring on an Aubrey Rabun single in the first inning, Deschaine drove a pitch over the centerfield fence and into the marsh in the third to score Kayla Bass, who reached on a double.

Ashley Ridge then added two runs in the fifth off a double by Rabun that plated Kendal Rote and Chelsea Guyton.

Deschaine was impressive in the circle as she fanned 13 batters. The only blemishes on her performance came when she hit a batter with a pitch in the third and walked another in the fifth.

Rote, Deschaine and Rabun all had multiple hits for the Swamp Foxes, which improved to 15-11. Aiken fell to 4-13.

"I like how we are playing together as a team," Ashley Ridge coach Angie Brush said. "We seem to be coming together at the right time and our frame of mind is completely different than it was at the beginning of the season."

Ashley Ridge will host Carolina Forest, a 5-2 winner over Stratford, today.
